Here are the comments previous visitors left. I only pubish comments that aren't offensive. I know many people has suffered and died because of the Troubles, from both sides of the conflict. It is not my aim to glorify terrorists: I give an objective point of view.
This is a site for remembering not only Bobby Sands, but also the other 9 hungerstrikers, and all the people who fought with them, such the ones who survived the hunger strike, the blanket men, the 7 from Maze, the women in Armagh... it's a site for remembrance. These people made history, fought for better conditions in a very hostile place.

Hi Gerry!! I really love your new section in your site, I think it's great you put them here because maybe someone who visits your site doesn't know about the history behind the facts and in this way this person can know it. I think now your site it's more complete. Thank you for letting me know about it. A great hug from Catalonia!!! Elia

Yes, I read something about him. There was a film with Daniel Brühl, isn't it? And he was also arrested in an unclear shooting, I believe (more or less like Bobby, although Bobby was far from the shooting, only because the police said the weapon found on the car he was travelling was used in the shooting) sometimes government's forces are impartial... so sad.
By the way, I read 2 weeks ago or so that a Palestinian guy was in his 80th hunger strike day... can you imagine? he was a football player and wanted to go to play a championship into another country, and in the border, Israeli guards didn't let him travel and told him he was a terrorist... now he is deaf and his family is fearing for him... sadly I don't remember his name, but it's very sad that today there are the same troubles than in the 80s (just in another place, but the same troubles).
We have to learn a lot from history yet.

Hi Gerry! thank you very much for the updates.
I agree with Violet, in Barcelona there was an anarchist called Salvador Puig Antich and he was against the dictatorship of Franco. It's sad because lots of people demonstrated in the streets (it was illegal) for Salvador Puig Antich freedom. He had three sisters and a girlfriend, all of them loved him so much, all the people who was against Franco (there was a lot of people) wanted freedom for Salvador Puig Antich, even the police man who was guarding him, because they became friends.
It seems that history is repeating again and again... anyway, you did a great job, I think it has to be little difficult to find news related to this, but luckily we have internet! have a nice day Gerry and keep up with your great site :)

Thanks for building this site in memory of bobby sands and all the men who suffered in prison ad died in the hunger strike.
I've always been very interested in the troubles, because I really love Ireland and it's history, culture, music, languaje...
Bobby Sands was so brave fighting for better conditions for him and his friends in jail. I couldn't never go to a hunger strike. I guess everyone thought he finally wouldn't die, specially after being elected MP. He would have loved being today in a peaceful Ireland.
I will always admire him - he makes me think of a young man who was jailed in Barcelona and executed the last days of Franco's dictatorship, he was Salvador Puig Antich. Everyone thought he could save his life in the final moment. But he didn't.
Life in prison (and in the 80s) must be so difficult, I guess nobody can imagine it unless you've been there, and Bobby fought until the end for having better conditions. and he never killed nobody.
RIP, you'll always be remembered.

Hi Gerry, I'm Elia, the websmistress of Jack the Ripper site (www.victorianwhitechapel.webs.com) I just want to tell you I LOVE THIS SITE!! I've been in Belfast just to see the murals and I got shocked when I saw the wall dividing the city. It's sad, there are walls everywhere, in Berlin, in Palestina, but I never imagined there was a ball in Belfast, I've never heard of it, and when I saw it, my heart broke in two pieces... It's sad all the conflicts around rights. I'm Catalan and Catalonia always fought for freedom, our culture is more ancient than the Spanish one, but they don't want to recognise it, they want to walk over us. I'm proud of being Catalan and I love and I wish Catalonia would be independent, is richer than Spain and always had been, but the governators want to keep Catalonia in Spain because they know it's a rich country.
I agree with Bobby Sands, I think he was doing the correct thing to do, he was pacifist and he was fighting for some rights he and his group deserved, I don't like Margaret Thacher, in my family we call her "Facher", it's a mixing of her surmane and "fascist", cause she is fascist, isn't it? I think Bobby Sands would be proud of your site and of your feelings about him, his (and your) country, the politics... It's sad to admit it, but sadly his ideas are still present because of the conflicts in many places of the world. We forget we are all brothers and sisters and we shoud share all of our thoughts and knowledge, but the people who doesn't care about this and want to walk over the others are just ignorants.
I hope your site will be much visited and commented because it features a recent part of our modern history which should not he forgotten.
Thank you very much for letting me know about your site!
